There’s an island in the Pacific Ocean, it’s an archive we didn’t intend to create. Even without cataloging the Great Pacific Garbage Patch allows us to see the impact we have had on the natural world through its informal collection. In Central New York though, similar objects are kept temperature controlled in acid free boxes. A building with shelves of glassine wrapped plastic holds Slinkies, trophies, and tumblers. They have been given accession numbers and keywords for easy recall. The Syracuse University Plastics Collection is dedicated to objects whose disposal is notoriously troublesome.
